Perspectives
Solace, a moment of contemplation on a busy campus, aims to call upon the aboriginal concept of circular time, to retire the norms of how we live in Country and yield to Country. In the context of colonial history which tore through song lines, circular time offers a positive perspective where nothing is truly lost, and everything remains within the cycle, silently waiting to be known again. This means taking a step towards the past, towards learning how to engage with Country as they once did.
Rather than downplay or make obscure the violent history of this unceded land, this project for an aboriginal centre of excellence on campus seeks to inspire visitors to question the present and approach Country with reverence, taking one step towards circling back to the past.
